In 2002, 45.8 million Chinese citizens had access to the internet, which is 43.8 million more than three years before. The information they could view was censored by China's leaders in what is known as "The Great Firewall". Censorship became a major issue, with over 60 Internet laws accumulating since 1995 which brought several arrests.
